DANCER WHO DREAMED OF BEING A BODYGUARD, STEALS THE HEARTS OF LADIES WORLDWIDE

Born in Chuncheon Kpop Star Teen Top ‘Changjo’

Black belt in Taekwondo, Jeolkwondo
Learnt dancing since elementary school
Popular for their powerful ‘knife-like dance’
Becomes the nation’s confession guy with “Be Ma Girl”
Touring 4 countries in Europe starting from 2 Feb
The new K-pop star idol boy group ‘Teen Top’ takes flight.

The moment the tickets to their Europe Tour France show were released on the 5th, it ranked 1st on the sales chart. Titled the ‘TEEN TOP SHOW! Live tour in Europe 2013”, starting from the 2nd in Munich to the 10th, they’ll visit Germany(Dortmund), England(London), France(Paris), Spain(Barcelona), meeting fans from 4 countries and 5 cities.

Raised in Chuncheon, Teen Top’s youngest member Changjo(real name: Choi Jonghyun,18) is a born dancer. He attended Chuncheon elementary school and middle school and is currently attending Chuncheon Agriculture and Technical High School; he’s an idol who’s still a student.

His height on his profile is 179cm and he weighs 58kg. But after his debut, he experienced a growth spurt and his current height is slightly over 180cm – growing up into a man real well. He’s not someone who’s just tall like a tree nor does he have the gentle image. On stage, in the tough choreography, you can feel his strong masculinity.

Before he started learning dance, his dream was to be a bodyguard. He’s a black belt at Taekwondo and Jeolkwondo. He did say that if he hadn’t become a singer, he would have carried on his dream to be a bodyguard.

But he’s still afraid of walking home alone at night; he’s still as chatty – just like any other teenager.

The boy group he’s in, Teen Top, is well-known for their powerful and masculine knife-like dance. You cannot undermine Changjo’s role in the group as his hobby is to choreograph dances.

He started dancing in his 5th year in elementary school. As he had interest in dance, he started to dream of becoming a singer. In the 1st year of middle school, he was determined to become like Big Bang’s Taeyang; someone who has the skills to be able to showcase his dance on stage. And of course, his debut was in his 3rd year of middle school.

Changjo would occasionally give 1-to-1 lessons to his oldest hyung from the same agency, Shinhwa’s Andy, this means that he’s really good at dancing.

In the music industry where tens of idol groups make their debut yearly, Teen Top with their “earnest determination” they have survived in the industry. Now they stand alongside K-Pop sunbaenims and set their sights for the world.

In particular, to match with the mood of Summer, Teen Top released their ‘Summer Special’ with the new song ‘Be Ma Girl’ which showed their potential to outlast in the industry. Teen Top’s confession song ‘Be Ma Girl’ earned great popularity and they were able to called the “nation’s confession guys”

“In order to become the forerunners leading the K-pop wave we’ll work even harder. For Chuncheon’s dancer Changjo and Teen Top to take over the music industry, please show us lots of love”

Hyoyoung, "I'm proud of myself and confident for the future"

Rookie actors have risen from the widely popular KBS 2TV drama "School 2013". Among them is Ryu Hyoyoung. Originally she was born as an idol, but had an absence in the industry but now she showed her skills as an actress with her natural acting skills.

"A lot of people came to audition the same day as me. I think there was over 2,000 people auditioning for a role but I'm very thankful I got the part. It's really like my first challenge in acting, and I didn't know a lot. I don't know things like how to position my body in front of the camera.. and then (laughs) the director would show me and be like "It's like this.'"

Previously, Hyoyoung appeared in the dramas "Jungle Fish 2" (2010) and "The Greatest Love" (2011) but this was her first role as a main character.

- "Thanks to Gangjoo, the first time I've tried short haircut!"

Hyoyoung played Lee Gangjoo in "School 2013" with a short haircut and rough behavior. She had a well-rounded personality and tried to solve issues with her classmates. There was a lot of emphasis on her friendship and friends. Hyoyoung confessed that her and Gangjoo are quite similar.

Hyoyoung must have transformed from a long haircut into a short haircut for her character Lee Gangjoo. Cutting your hair is not something easy for girls to do. Hyoyoung said, "I'm proud of myself for doing it. I wanted to do something new and it goes well with me."

- "Singer and actress, I have to be both"

Hyoyoung made her debut in 2011 with the girl group 5dolls. Numerous idols have made a transformation on TV into idol-acotrs. A lot of concern is also raised when idols try to tackle acting, and not many are supported for it. We were interested in hearing why Hyoyoung decided to become an actress for "School 2013".

"I can't give up singing to be an actress. Asking me to do this is like saying 'Do you like your mother more? Or do you like your father more?' It's so difficult to answer. I'm getting ready to release an album and don't want to miss the opportunities I'm given.

On the special broadcast of "School 2013", Hyoyoung performed SISTAR's "Alone" with Kil Eunhye and Oh Gaeun. Hyoyoung had stage experience, but the others did not, so she was worried. But in the end, she had nothing to worry about. She said, "I was worried that they couldn't learn the choreography quickly and because there was only two days to learn. We got bruises and sore feet, but everything is back to normal now. I was really surprised. I think we finished the show really well together."

- "Yoobin oppa, I want to meet him in future projects"

Hyoyoung spent 24 hours a day during the three-month filming period in school with new found friends. Most 20 year olds are moving on from school, but Hyoyoung had to get back into a school-mindset.

"We sneaked snacks to eat and stole each others cellphones. Thinking about it now, I laughed more than I talked. There is no question to who is my best friend from the cast. We are all like 'kids' and even spent Christmas together. Everyone is unique but I really enjoyed Yoobin oppa's personality. Heungsoo was also charming but blunt and I want to work with both of them in the future."

I want to grow as an actress after "School 2013" if given the opportunity. "I want to study more, but I haven't yet tried everything I like and I want to try everything. I have confidence in myself."

"I already miss wearing the uniform and going to school with my bag. We agreed to meet each other every three months but next time it won't be at school. Maybe we'll just meet at McDonald's," Hyoyoung said laughing.

Dazed & Confused: "G-Dragon - Kpop's Golden Boy"

(Edwina Mukasa is a London writer obsessed with K-pop. Every month she'll offer her view on the world's wildest pop music scene, starting today with this piece about the Korean Michael Jackson, G-Dragon.)

Ji-yong Kwon, the 24-year-old otherwise known as G-Dragon, is one of the most powerful artists within the K-pop industry and the current King of K-pop. The leader of the biggest K-pop group around, BIGBANG, the 24-year-old G-Dragon has been in the industry for over 15 years, first as a trainee at age 8 for SM Entertainment, the most powerful Entertainment company in Korea. Years later, he moved to Hip-Hop centric YG Entertainment, the famed company behind artists like girl group 2NE1 and the world's favourite oppa, PSY. Despite coming from a music industry where manufactured pop is shamelessly widespread, G-Dragon manages to challenge our ideas of mass produced pop music with his contributions to many of current K-pop hits with BIGBANG’s “Bad Boy”, “Fantastic Baby”, and “Monster”.

His latest singles from 2012's One of A Kind EP released last year contained a more matured approach than his 2009 debut solo album Heartbreaker. Songs like “That XX” reveal a more slow, and pensive character in comparison to songs like “One of a Kind” and “Crayon” which execute a series of transformations, revealing a more buoyant and confident temperament in both music and style. As a part of BIGBANG, his musical style originally targeted young female fans, but with his solo efforts his music reaches beyond different demographic groups as his music delivers an anecdote for a generation of young modern Koreans stemming away from Korean conventions.

K-pop would not be where it is now without its individual packaging style. Its art direction is as addictive, highly controlled and colourful as a packet of skittles. G-Dragon uses this to be as conspicuous as possible, within cute, demure even, Korean archetypes. Frequently dressed in gear by Balmain, Chrome Hearts, Jeremy Scott, Comme des Garçons and Givenchy, Nicola Formichetti is such a fan he asked him to soundtrack his Mugler show – you can check out his strongest ten looks in the gallery above. JYJ talks about Financial Accounting Team & Success in South America

Group JYJ talk about financial accounting team and success in South America in their JYJ Magazine: The Story of 1000 Days.

They said "This is the team who envy us the most. We often hear from them “Seems like we are sending you all that great amount of money. We are envious.” Of course, although they would be joking, just how much would they be shaking if they actually saw that money?(laugh) They are thankful people who truthfully have the role of the mother inside the nest that is CJeS."

As soon as JYJ succeeded at their solo concerts in Chile and Peru as the first Korean artists, broadcasting stations and idol groups were heading there, disputing each other. On that, Kim Junsu said: “Although, we were the one who did the heading to the (bare) ground, it seems like other people are seeing the light. To this thought, although we felt stunned, we also felt a sense of responsibility on one side. That sense of responsibility that we will do what others are hesitating for no matter what. Because being able to show this is also our ability/skill/competence.”

CNBLUE: Paving the Way for K-POP Bands

Rock band CNBLUE have been experiencing remarkable success performing live stages and have possibly opened the door for how music bands are represented on television.

CNBLUE started the year with outstanding success with their, some would say, best comeback ever. On January 14th, the band released their long awaited Korean comeback album ‘RE: BLUE’, which quickly won over all the music charts and sales listings. CNBLUE had a major hit on their hands and were about to unleash it on all of Korea and the world.

From the beginning, the band had the idea that they wanted to perform all live stages on as many music show appearances as they could. It is not very common for band artists to perform with full live instruments on many of Korea’s music shows mainly because of the huge production costs and labor behind the performance set up. These obstacles were something CNBLUE and label mates, FTISLAND among others, have had to deal with since their debut. CNBLUE have been touted as an Idol band and have been accused of not being a “real band” mainly because many only viewed them on stage hand syncing to their music as this was the practice of most music shows on TV. Despite their obvious musical talents, CNBLUE were portrayed in the media as pretty “Flower” boys until now.

CNBLUE were determined to start show promotions for ‘RE: BLUE’ with all live stages. Not letting previous obstacles stand in their way for this comeback, they made sure all the provisions for their live stages would be covered by the band. The difficulties of this possibility such as production labor, venue, and equipment rentals as well as supporters in the form of fans to fill the audience all had to be taken into consideration for them to be able to pull it off. The outcome, they would prerecord their live stage performances in front of a live audience to be broadcast at a later date.

For two weeks in a row, CNBLUE have consistently appeared on TV with prerecorded live instrument stages and are still going strong. They have made history being the first band to perform live stages on various Korean television music shows, shedding their “Idol band” media image in the process. While it’s a feat that they should be proud of, it’s even more impressive that they may be single handedly changing the way bands are treated and represented on television from now on. While the live stage production still poses an expensive issue, CNBLUE have shown that it is a problem that can be overcome successfully.

CNBLUE still continue their stages for a third consecutive week starting with a KBS Music Bank performance on February 2, 2013.
